Kebbi Customs busts smuggling operation, seizes goods worth N126 million
The Nigerian Customs Service in Kebbi State recently stopped a shipment of goods worth over N126 million. This included 212 bags of foreign rice and 10,025 liters of petrol.
Fighting against smuggling
The Customs Area Comptroller, Iheanacho Ojike, explained that they have been working hard to stop smuggling in the area. They have been patrolling all over Kebbi and using intelligence to catch smugglers. They also educate the local communities about the dangers of smuggling.
Why smuggling is bad
Smuggling hurts the economy and the people living in the area. The Customs Service has been taking steps to stop smuggling, which led to the seizure of these goods.
Seized items
Along with the rice and petrol, they also found Indian hemp, clothing, drugs, expired milk, tires, and other items. The total value of all the seized items is over N126 million.
Revenue generation
The Customs Service has been facing challenges due to border closures, but they still managed to generate over N N7,215,500 in revenue in just two months. This is a big increase compared to previous months.
